Funeral services for Delores A. Ness, 81, of Wallingford, will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, June 13, 2024 at Wallingford Lutheran Church in Wallingford with Pastor John Wolf officiating. Interment will be at Wallingford Lutheran Cemetery. Delores passed away on June 9, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Estherville, after a courageous battle with multiple myeloma.
Visitation was Wednesday at the Henry-Olson Funeral Home in Estherville.
Delores Ann Holmberg was born to Anna C. Hanson Holmberg and Louie A. Holmberg on May 11, 1943, in Spencer, IA. She was welcomed by two brothers, Lavern and Don; sister Janet would arrive one year later. Delores spent her early years on the family farm near Spencer, IA, and attended a one-room country school until she was in sixth grade. At that time, 1955, the family moved to a new home on a farm near Terril, IA. Delores attended Terril Community School, graduating in 1961. Following graduation, she attended Estherville Junior College in Estherville, IA, for two years and then Mankato State Teachers’ College in Mankato, MN, where she received her teaching degree. Her first teaching job was kindergarten at North Emmet Consolidated School, followed by over 30 years of teaching second grade in Graettinger, IA.
Delores was married to Robert A. Ness on March 26, 1965, at Wallingford Lutheran Church in Wallingford, IA. The couple lived on three different farms in the area before moving to Bob’s family home on Twelve Mile Lake in Emmet County, where they have lived all these years. Three children were born to Delores and Bob; a son, Steve, and two daughters, Lisa and Angela. Delores was a great wife, mother, teacher, and friend. She was also very active in the community and at her church, Wallingford Lutheran.
Delores was preceded in death by her parents, Anna and Louie Holmberg; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Edna and Aadne Ness; a sister-in-law, Ruth Ness Phillips; and a nephew, Patrick Michael Tindall.
She is survived by her husband, Bob; son, Steve, of Terril, IA; daughter, Lisa Griffith (Jeff) of Estherville, IA; daughter, Angela (Trevor) Johnson of Chatfield, MN; and seven grandchildren: Kylie and Leah Ness; Joshua, David and Jonathan Griffith; and Logan and Anna Johnson. She is also survived by brother, Lavern (Karlene) Holmberg of Topeka, KS; brother Don (Sharon) Holmberg of Terril, IA; sister, Janet (Bill) Sanders of Shoreview, MN; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Richard and Marge Tindall of Graettinger, IA, and Roger and Joyce Schulte of Farmersburg, IA; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
