Lorraine M. Gage

Lorraine M. Gage, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at Dougherty Hospice House. Lorraine was 91.

Lorraine was born on October 9, 1932, on a farm in Iowa to Henry “Art” Arthur and Ada Sophia (Meine) Balmer. After graduating from Maple Hill Iowa High School in 1950, she furthered her education for a year at Mankato Commercial College.

After college, Lorraine worked at Honey Mead Company in Mankato as the entrance secretary to the president’s office and later as an agent for the County Extension Office.

On June 22, 1952, Lorraine was united in marriage to Dareld Gage in Estherville, Iowa. The couple were blessed with two children, Roger and Lori. Lorraine stopped working and devoted herself to raising her children and caring for her family.

Family was everything to Lorraine, and she loved spending time at their cottage at Lake Campbell, engaging in activities like boating and waterskiing, and enjoying the company of her loved ones. She also cherished supporting her grandchildren at their sporting events. Lorraine had a soft spot for her dog, Abby, whom she called her “soulmate.” In her free time, she enjoyed playing Bridge, tending to her garden, and spending time outdoors with flowers.

Lorraine was an Our Redeemer Lutheran Church member in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Grateful for having shared her life with are her children, Roger (Susan) Gage of Brookings, SD, and Lori (Paul) Freiesleben of Sioux Falls; six grandchildren, Andrea (Nick) Gage of Shorewood, WI, Kristen Gage of Sioux Falls, Ryan Gage of Brookings, SD, Joseph Freiesleben of Florida, Jacob Freiesleben of Dallas, TX, and Leah (Cody) Donnelly of Palm Harbor, FL; and seven great-grandchildren, Clara, Isaac, Aubree, Corbin, Micah, Mackenzie, and Brantley.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, Art and Ada Balmer; husband, Dareld Gage; and sister, Elaine Andersen.

The funeral service was held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, with visitation 10:00 am at Miller Westside Chapel, 6200 W. 41st Street, Sioux Falls, SD 57106. Private inurnment, Woodlawn Cemetery, Sioux Falls, SD.
